Biosound was formed in the early 1970's by Boehringer Manheim.  Biosound's products specialized in cardiovascular ultrasound.  The initial product, the Phase I, was one of the first real time ultrasound scanners available on the market.  In the early 1980's the division was bought by the Anderson Group, a technology consortium based in Connecticut.  Under Anderson's control, Biosound was merged with an ultrasound division of Honeywell, based in Denver.  During this time, Biosound reached a peak of about 200 employees.  In the mid 80's, the company was restructured, and the R&D effort was moved from Denver to Indianapolis.  An employee buyout was executed in the late 80's followed by a subsequent sale to the ESA/OTE company, an ultrasound equipment company located in Italy.
